Debt counselling

Rick, our debt coach, and CAP’s head office staff work to find the best route for anyone living with debt to become debt free.  We have had a big increase in the number of clients asking for debt counselling; 24 new clients last year – more than our previous 3 years of working all together. A lot of these new clients have come through the Compass working closely with Gemma and the volunteers there.  We are very pleased that Linda Paris has volunteered to be an additional debt coach. Linda will be interviewed by CAP and have training  before taking on the role.  If you know someone who is worried about debt and needs help please encourage them to call 0800 328 0006

One to one budgeting mentoring sessions and the CAP Money Course

The one to one budgeting mentoring sessions and the CAP Money Course enable people to get to grips with their finances so they can budget, save and prevent debt. We are providing one to one mentoring through our presence at local pop up shops, the St Philips Hub and the Compass. And we will soon be re-starting the CAP money course, which we had put on hold because of Coronavirus. For more information about mentoring or the money course call: 07394 177634 or email: Felixstowemoneycourse@outlook.com;

Life Skills

The Life Skills course equips people with the confidence, decision making, and practical skills needed to live on a low income. The 8 week course walks people through money management and organisational skills, right through to health, wellbeing and building positive relationships. The first course is in progress now with 9 participants, and we have people on the waiting list for the next course. To find out more call: 07942353486 or email: joybaker@caplifeskills.org

How you can help

  • We need more people to be an ongoing friendly contact and encouragement for debt counselling clients.
  • We are very grateful for the financial support of five churches and a number of individuals who together donate £560/month to the cost
  • of running the debt counselling centre. We keep our costs to a minimum and all our workers are unpaid volunteers. However our running costs are over £700/month. We would really appreciate it if you or your church could help us close that funding gap.

Would you consider becoming a:

  • Befriender – someone who can keep in touch with a client (phone call or meet for a coffee), be a friend and a listening ear, and walk alongside them on their path to become debt free
  • Prayer partner - we are very conscious that we need God’s presence in all we do and are very grateful for the support of our prayer team
  • Second debt coach - we need someone to join us and work alongside Rick with the aim of training to become our second debt coach

Prayer - please pray:

  • That the new clients will commit to working with us and so start on their path to become debt free
  • Thank God that a client was able to become debt free earlier this year
  • That people will volunteer to be befrienders or prayers or a trainee debt coach
  • For new clients: that some of the many people in debt will have the confidence to make contact
  • Praise God that some of the new clients are attending a church
  • Praise God for the way we can work together with other community projects, which includes The Compass

If you know of anyone in debt, please encourage them to call CAP on 0800 328 0006.
