Felixstowe Christian Action Against Poverty and Debt (FCAAPD)
The CAP Team in Felixstowe have asked if a member of River of Life Church would be interested in continuing the work which John Goldring undertook so well. There is a Spring Update Report below and CAP has a Management Forum which meets locally every 6 weeks or so. If you have an interest in helping others through financial difficulties, please contact Church Office for more details. Involvement need not be too onerous, only depending on personal choice and commitment.
There is a CAP Money Course starting during June
Why not pop along and find out what it's all about?
Spring 2021 update
Our dear brother, John Goldring would normally be posting this update report; he had a sympathetic heart for people and made it his business to support those in need whenever possible. For several years he was involved with CAP, providing help, guidance and comfort through his vast wealth of financial knowledge and experience. John was called home to be with our Lord earlier this year, we miss him so much and I'm sure all those he helped through CAP will also regret his passing. We thank the Lord for John's life as we continue to pray for Elizabeth and the family that they will be comforted throughout the months and years ahead.
As we come out of lockdown people are beginning to realise the toll that furlough, loss of jobs and challenging family circumstances has taken on their finances; that the debt that they have been ignoring has grown and their finances are out of control. So much so that requests for help to CAP from across the UK tripled in March. We are now seeing that need in Felixstowe and have had 4 new clients this last month. We have also had the joy of one of our existing clients becoming debt free earlier this year.
We are looking to restart the CAP Money Course sessions in the next two or three months, once the Coronavirus restrictions allow us to do so. The CAP Money Course teaches budgeting skills and a simple, cash-based way of managing money that really works. The course helps people get more in control of their finances so they can save and prevent debt. We will let you know the session dates as soon as we know them.
To continue touching people’s lives in Jesus’ name as we seek to do, we need help!
Would you consider becoming a:
Befriender – someone who can keep in touch with a client (phone call or meet for a coffee), be a friend and a listening ear, and walk alongside them on their path to become debt free
Prayer partner - we are very conscious that we need God’s presence in all we do and are very grateful for the support of our prayer team
Second debt coach - we need someone to join us and work alongside Rick with the aim of training to become our second debt coach
Prayer - please pray:
That the new clients will commit to working with us and so start on their path to become debt free
Thank God that a client was able to become debt free earlier this year
That people will volunteer to be befrienders or prayers or a trainee debt coach
For new clients: that some of the many people in debt will have the confidence to make contact
Praise God that some of the new clients are attending a church
Praise God for the way we can work together with other community projects, which now includes the new venture The Compass
The great news is that, since we started in 2018, 30 clients have asked for help, 15 clients signed up to work with CAP and 7 clients are now debt free. The Lockdown has left many people worried, anxious and struggling with debt and money concerns. If you know of anyone in debt, please encourage them to call CAP on 0800 328 0006.
